Learning How To Kontrol Myself

Purple lipstick. I have never really had a problem with wearing ridiculous clothing or accessories, but I gotta say, Kontrol by Illamasqua really threw me for a loop.

Here she is in all her glory:

I have been working up the courage to wear this colour ever since it was given to me with the launch of Theatre of the Nameless. I finally did it a few weeks ago and I can’t believe I waited so long!

I also discovered a way that I like wearing it that is a little less confronting than a full on purple lip. I was fooling around with putting a red colored lipgloss over it when I realised how horrible that looks. (Haha, I should probably note here that, given the right product it probably wouldn’t look that bad but the particular one I chose to use was truly horrible.) I decided to blot it off with some tissue and it left me with kind of a faded effect, that, I am aware, will probably not be everyone’s cup of tea. But I like it.

There are the products I’m using in this look.

  • Korres Face Primer
  • Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
  • Illasmasqua Concealer
  • Nars Orgasm Illuminator
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Mac Paint Pot in Groundwork
  • Kjaer Weis eyeshadow in Wisdom
  • Mirenesse Vibralash mascara*
  • Illamasqua lipstick in Kontrol. Obviously.*

This color also looks really lovely as a stain. Actually the more I wear this lipstick the less it feels like I’m making some kind of bold statement. I’ve realised purple is actually quite a flattering color on most skintones.

I’ll put up another FOTD with me wearing Kontrol as a stain so you can see that too.

But tell me, are you brave enough to wear purple lipstick?

You can totally pull it off!! ^_^
I think with the faded effect, it looks much nicer since it’s not just one flat colour.

As for purple lipsticks, I actually own 1 lavender shade, 1 eggplant purple and a fuchsia but I’ve never had the courage to wear em’ out. I think I just like to collect them.. I still don’t have the courage to wear red lipsticks out so… :(

Looking forward to your FOTD though.. I’d love to see this shade as a stain!

It’s terribly glam in a forward looking, space aged kinda way. It really suits you.

I like it. i have one purple shade, but its less full on than the Illamasqua. I can get away with it during the day for a bit of fun, but i’m not sure about evenings.

It is such a pretty colour and it looks lovely on you – I am definitely not brave enough for it though! I have only just conquered being able to wear a bright pink, hehe :)

I wore a colour very much like this in 1987 by Bourjois. I’m not going back :) Yes, I’m old .
